Dr Inka Hanefeld, LLM is founding partner of Hanefeld Rechtsanwälte, a dispute resolution boutique firm based in Hamburg, Germany.
Inka has acted as sole and co-arbitrator as well as president in more than 75 international and domestic cases, both institutional (inter alia ICC, SCC, DIS, VIAC, PCA, CEAC, GMAA) and ad hoc, including large scale energy, construction, post-M&A and finance disputes, as well as treaty based investment arbitrations. Inka also enjoys an outstanding reputation as counsel. She has successfully asserted the rights and interests of large listed companies before state courts and arbitral tribunals. In addition, she has acted as counsel for sovereign States and State entities. The excellent quality of Inka’s work has been acknowledged in various national and international rankings.
In 2013, Inka was appointed as one of four arbitrators to the panel of arbitrators at the Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) by the German Government. In 2014, Inka was appointed Germany’s alternate member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and in 2015, she became vice-president of the ICC Court. She is also a member of the LCIA Court since 2015.
Inka worked for several years in the dispute resolution department of a leading international law firm in Vienna, New York, Frankfurt and Hamburg before establishing her own private practice in 2005. She holds a Master of Laws in international legal studies (LLM) from New York University School of Law and is admitted to the German and New York Bar. Her working languages are English and German.
Inka is a fellow lecturer at the New York University School of Law (September 2012/2016) and lectured domestic and international arbitration law at the University of Hamburg up until 2013. She is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR as well as of the former ICC task force on arbitration involving states or state entities.
