Robert is a partner and public notary at Charles Russell Speechlys in the firm's commercial group, where he advises multinational businesses on legal and regulatory issues. He is a highly regarded technology lawyer and has specialised in internet and e-commerce law since 1990. He has specialised in IT, computer games law and data protection law since 1979.
His legal and compliance work encompasses information security, data protection, encryption and biometrics, IT contracts, digital and social media and e-commerce.
Robert is recognised as a legal expert by Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Technology & Telecommunications Lawyers, is listed in Legal Experts 2015, published by Legal Business, and is listed as a “Notable Practitioner” for data protection in Chambers 2014.
Robert is widely published and is the author of many leading books and publications including Equity - Navigating Security and Legal Issues in Digital Business (published in 2002 by John Wiley & Sons Ltd) and Negotiating International Software Licences and Data Transfer Agreements (now in its fourth edition and published by Sweet & Maxwell). He is also the editor of Getting the Deal Through – e-Commerce, published by Law Business Research.
Robert is a certified compliance and ethics professional, a companion of the British Computer Society, a fellow of the Society of Advanced Legal Studies, an honorary member of the Institute of Export and founder of The i in online Ltd, a charity aimed at teaching children how to manage their privacy online.
