Who's Who Legal Competition: Lawyers

Vani Chetty heads up the antitrust and competition practice group at Baker & McKenzie, South Africa. She obtained her LLM degree at Georgetown University in Washington and her LLB and BA degrees at the University of Durban Westville, South Africa. With over 20 years' experience, Vani has practised in this market since the inception of competition law in South Africa and also launched the country's first competition law practice in 2007: Vani Chetty Competition Law.

By uniquely combining South African competition expertise with global perspective and experience, Vani maintains an active domestic and international client base. Her experience extends to acting on behalf of clients in high-profile mergers and acquisitions, restrictive business practices and cartel-related matters. Her diverse client portfolio includes clients from the financial services, property, construction, steel, insurance, petroleum and consumer goods sectors. In addition, she advised foreign policymakers on South Africa's competition law regime, and has conducted competition law training for African countries.

Vani frequently advises her clients on high-profile matters, including her recent role in the investigation into the South African construction industry, which is one of South Africa's largest Competition Authority investigations to date. She also co-chairs the sub-group on competition policy implementation for the International Chamber of Commerce Commission to the International Competition Network.

Vani's considerable expertise, broad experience, professionalism and personal attention to her clients' interests and concerns make Vani Chetty an authoritative and accessible ally in all matters pertaining to South African and international competition and antitrust law.

WWL says: One of the most high profile experts in Africa, she is "extremely skilled and always great to work with"
