Mark is a litigation and antitrust partner in our London office. He specialises in competition litigation and investigations. Mark co-leads our collective and class action litigation skills group and is a member of our cartel skills group of antitrust partners.
Mark advises on both contentious and non-contentious competition matters, including competition litigation, investigations, advisory and transactional matters.
He is named as a leading practitioner in his field in Chambers UK, Chambers Global and Who's Who Legal: Competition. He is one of the few UK lawyers ranked in Chambers for both non-contentious competition law and competition litigation. In December 2015 he was named by Global Competition Review as one of the top 40 antitrust lawyers in the world under the age of 40.
Mark has a successful track-record representing clients in competition investigations by EU and UK authorities and in defending them from damages actions before the UK courts and Competition Appeal Tribunal. Mark also regularly coordinates investigations and litigation arising from the same conduct across multiple jurisdictions. By advising on both the investigation and litigation stages, his clients can keep the same defence team throughout.
In addition, Mark acts on market studies and market investigations before the EU and UK competition authorities. He has also advised on arbitrations involving competition law issues (under ICC and UNCITRAL rules) and has appeared as an advocate before arbitral tribunals.
Freshfields’ antitrust competition and trade practice comprises more than 50 partners and over 210 other specialists working worldwide to support our clients wherever and whenever they need us.
WWL says: Mark Sansom garnered praise both for his "formidable" contentious practice and his "superb" advice to clients
