Fernando de Salvidea de Miguel founded the law firm De Salvidea y González Alcántara SC, in January 2014. Prior to this, he was a partner at Mijares Angoitia Cortés y Fuentes SC (a role he held from 1997 onwards) where he initially concentrated on representing clients in securities and banking transactions, with a strong focus on restructuring and distressed asset sales, including the sale of some leading Mexican banks and their assets to foreign investors following the 1994 financial crisis. Along with the sale of the banks and their assets, Mr de Salvidea was also entrusted with the litigation and arbitration processes concerning price claims and was successful in all matters.
In 2002, Mr de Salvidea established the litigation practice at Mijares. His previous experience in litigation and arbitration was a key factor in the development of the practice. Since 2014, as a partner of De Salvidea y González Alcántara, SC, he has represented various clients from different sectors of the economy including banks, industrial undertakings and multinational corporations; his clients are mainly pursuing the restitution of fundamental rights breached by acts of government at all levels. Mr de Salvidea’s previous practice as a transactional lawyer is a distinctive quality that has proven to add value to the matters entrusted by his clients. As an example of his recent achievements he recently obtained a landmark final ruling for a bank on a complex financial derivatives litigation (which it was a very rare case, if not the only in Mexico to have achieved such a favorable ruling), he won a unique ruling which resulted in one of the few cases whereby the final protection of tax sensitive information prevailed and he also obtained a judgment which safeguarded an international corporation from the unconstitutional application of several prohibitions set forth by the Foreign Investment system of laws.
Mr de Salvidea has a master of laws degree from the University of Cambridge, UK (1994) and graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho (1985–1990) (summa cum laude). He has held professorial roles at the Escuela Libre de Derecho and the Pan American University in Mexico City, at both graduate and postgraduate levels.
WWL says: The “excellent” Fernando de Salvidea de Miguel, founder of De Salvidea y González Alcántara, represents clients seeking redress against government actions, with particular expertise acting for banks.
