Chris Milburn is a managing director with FTI Consulting, based in Toronto. He has 19 years of experience quantifying economic damages and performing business valuations in the context of complex disputes.
Chris is a chartered professional accountant (CPA), a certified management accountant (CMA), and a chartered business valuator (CBV). Chris is also a qualified valuator under the Canadian Institute of Mining Metallurgy and Petroleum on Valuation of Mineral Properties (CIMVAL) Standards and Guidelines for Valuation of Mineral Properties.
Chris has worked on a wide variety of matters over the course of his career to date, including: valuation of business interests following expropriation; quantification of economic damages including lost profits, and wasted expenses analyses due to breach of contract; and forensic/financial investigations.
Chris has worked on large NAFTA, ICSID and ICC arbitrations and litigation in Canadian and US courts in many industries, including mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, electricity generation, textiles, financial services and environmental services. His work experience includes matters in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Chris has provided expert testimony relating to the quantification of economic damages and valuation on a number of occasions, including in Permanent Court of Arbitration cases held at the World Bank in Washington, DC, and at the New York International Arbitration Center. Chris has been recognised as a leading expert in the field of damages and valuation in Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration (expert witnesses) since 2014.
Chris speaks regularly on the quantification of economic damages and valuation issues and has been involved in the education and certification process of business valuation candidates with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators for many years.
