José Roberto de Castro Neves is a senior partner and founder of Ferro, Castro Neves, Daltro & Gomide Advogados, with offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. José Roberto specialises in civil and commercial litigation, commercial, administrative and contract law, consumer rights and inheritance law. He has considerable experience in court proceedings and complex arbitrations.
He received his master’s degree in law from Cambridge University and both his civil law doctorate and his bachelor's degree in law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. He has published many books – among them Direito das Obrigações (On the Law of Obligations), Introdução ao Direito Civil (Introductory Lessons to Civil Law) and Medida por Medida – O Direito em Shakespeare (On the Relationship Between Shakespeare and the Law). He has also published numerous articles on civil law and arbitration. He participated in the commission selected by the Brazilian Senate to review the Brazilian arbitration law. José Roberto has been recognised by many specialist publications as a leading lawyer in Brazil.
For more than two decades, he has been a professor of civil law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a professor of civil law on the graduate programme at the State University of Rio de Janeiro and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He lectures at the Magistrate School of the State of Rio de Janeiro and Fundação Getúlio Vargas Foundation, also in Rio de Janeiro.
He is married and has three children.
