Who's Who Legal Arbitration: Lawyers

David Howell sits as an independent arbitrator under ICC, LCIA and other international arbitration rules and is on the arbitrator panel of a number of leading arbitral institutions, including SIAC. He is a member of the ICDR international panel of arbitrators and the Energy Arbitrators List. He appeared as lead counsel and advocate in commercial, construction, energy, oil & gas, shareholder, joint venture and technology licensing arbitrations held under all of the major international arbitration rules during a 30-year career in private practice as a partner in two leading international law firms.

He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators and is a member of the LCIA. A solicitor advocate of the English High Court, admitted in England and Wales and in Hong Kong, he was re-admitted as a barrister (Lincoln’s Inn) in 2014.

He is editor and author of Electronic Disclosure in International Arbitration (published by Juris) and was principal drafter of the CIArb Protocol for E-disclosure in Arbitration.

From 2005 he was co-chair of the global international arbitration practice of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, based in London. He has practised from London, Dubai and Singapore, where he was chair of the Asian disputes practice of Baker & Mckenzie. He was a member of the first advisory committee of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre upon its foundation and a member of the Singapore Law Reform committee that drafted the Singapore International Arbitration Act.

He has appeared in international arbitration proceedings worldwide, including arbitrations seated in London, Paris, Zurich, Stockholm, Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, New Delhi, New York and Houston. 

Described in Chambers UK as "intellectual and cerebral", having "huge experience in the international field" and “skilled in international arbitration”, he has been a regular speaker and author on international arbitration topics. He was educated at Oxford University.
