Who's Who Legal Competition: Lawyers

Anthony, London managing partner at Hausfeld, has 25 years of experience litigating claims in the English courts and across other jurisdictions worldwide. Since joining Hausfeld in London 10 years ago, Anthony has specialised in advising on complex commercial litigation with particular expertise in financial services disputes and competition litigation.

Having been instrumental in establishing Hausfeld as the market leading claimant firm in London for competition damages claims, Anthony has played a central role in the development of English jurisprudence for private enforcement of competition law. He has advised on some of the largest competition damages claims brought in Europe. For example, he has represented multiple claimants in private damages actions arising out of the Air Cargo cartel and Mastercard’s anticompetitive behaviour in setting interchange fees.

Anthony also currently acts for clients seeking redress against banks for the alleged fraudulent mis-selling of interest rate swaps and the manipulation of LIBOR, including the claimant in Stuart Barrie Wall v The Royal Bank of Scotland Plc, which is ranked as one of the top 20 cases for 2017 by The Lawyer magazine.

Anthony is a skilled negotiator with a renowned ability to formulate innovative settlement strategies, having reached the first private resolution of Parker ITR’s global liability in relation to its participation in the Marine Hose cartel without the involvement of courts, or alternative methods of dispute resolution such arbitration or mediation.

He has been described in Chambers & Partners as the “leading practitioner in this area”.

WWL says: Anthony Maton is regarded as one of England's top competition experts and "the leading claimant competition lawyer in London".
