Pantelis Christofides is a partner in L Papaphilippou & Co LLC, based in Nicosia, and a member of the competition law sector of the firm.
Pantelis is a holder of a First Class Honours LLB from the University of Leicester, LLM from the University of Cambridge (Fitzwilliam College) in EU Law, and the Professional Diploma in Legal Practice (Distinction) from Nottingham Law School. As an advocate, he is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association and Nicosia Bar Association and he is admitted as an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb). Pantelis is also a Non Governmental Advisor (NGA) regarding the Republic of Cyprus to the International Competition Network (ICN).
Pantelis has appeared before the Cyprus Commission for the Protection of Competition, acting as a defence team member in relation to concerted practice proceedings concerning such areas as the milk distribution sector, as well as handling Concentrations' Notifications leading to Clearance Decisions, such as Decision 64/2010 on the change of the functionality status of a pre- existing joint venture in the market of production, use and energy recovery of secondary materials and secondary fuels and waste, Decision 22/2012 as to change of control of a well-known international player in the retail grocery market, and Decisions 19/2011 - 20/2011 which related to two simultaneously filed notifications concerning back to back acquisitions of insurance companies under joint control status.
Furthermore, Pantelis has acted as one of the advocates representing the Nicosia Sewerage Board before the Court of Justice of the European Union in the proceedings relating to the preliminary reference of the Supreme Court of Cyprus under the former Article 234 EC as to public contracts' review procedures (Case C-570/08).
