Aigoul Kenjebayeva is the managing partner in Dentons' Almaty and Astana offices. Her particular areas of specialisation have been acquired from over 35 years as a practising lawyer and include corporate law, arbitration and litigation, energy and natural resources, infrastructure projects, and competition law. She is widely considered to be a top choice for dispute resolution and also works on matters in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
Aigoul concentrates on international arbitration, both commercial and investor-state, and acts as counsel and arbitrator. She has been actively involved in a number of complex multibillion-dollar international arbitration matters at both the arbitration and enforcement stages, particularly in connection with disputes relating to investments in Kazakhstan. Aigoul has acted as counsel in arbitrations conducted under various arbitration rules, including those of the ICC, SCC, LCIA, and UNCITRAL. She has authored dispute resolution chapters on Kazakhstan in reputed international guides, including The International Arbitration Review.
As a member of the international council under the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aigoul provides valuable contribution into shaping the approaches by Kazakhstan courts to resolving investment disputes, as well as forming court practice on enforcement of arbitral awards and development of legislation on arbitration.
Aigoul is the chairman of the Kazakhstan Bar Association Board and a member of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Lawyers Association Board, the Foreign Investors Council legal working group (under the auspices of the President of Kazakhstan) and the International Bar Association. She is also an Honorary Consul of Norway in Almaty. She consistently receives the highest rankings among the leading legal experts in Kazakhstan by Chambers Global, The Legal 500, Who`s Who Legal, IFLR1000, and Who`s Who in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
