Who's Who Legal Switzerland - Private Client

David Wallace Wilson is a partner with Schellenberg Wittmer's private clients and estates practice in Geneva. He advises individuals and families on wealth structuring and estate planning for their personal and business assets. He also acts in complex family, guardianship and inheritance disputes, including administering international successions. His additional area of expertise includes anti-money laundering (AML) and art law.

David's recent expertise in private client matters includes:

- Acting as testamentary executor of a foreign high-net-worth individual, in charge of liquidating an international succession involving two family-business companies (approximately 90 million Swiss Francs) and several lawsuits amongst a dozen of heirs;

- Advising a billionaire client on Automatic Exchange of Information, extensive restructuring of his large structures (involving Singapore, Bahamas and New Zealand), and relocating family members;

- Reviewing the entire book of clients of a leading trust company to assess the risks connected with such clients from a KYC and anti-money laundering perspective.

David is highly recognised by leading directories and publications for his expertise in private client matters. In Q3 2017, David was included in Legal Week's Elite list (only published every 5 years; only top five per cent of applications are selected). Chambers and Partners say clients enthuse that David is "outstanding in terms of his understanding of the client's needs". Chambers also labels him a "market leader in the field of guardianship and inheritance disputes". Who's Who Legal additionally comments that David "is an internationally-renowned practitioner with a well-established practice handling both contentious and non-contentious matters".

David currently serves as chairman of STEP Geneva, having been an officer since 2004. He is a co-editor of the Trust Quarterly Review and the founder of the leading website on trusts in Switzerland, www.trusts.ch. David is frequently quoted in the specialist press and lectures extensively (eg, Geneva University's banking and finance LLM, offshore tax planning conference). He regularly speaks on such topics as trust disputes, international estates, relocating to Switzerland, Swiss taxation of trusts and AML regulations.

David graduated from the University of Geneva with a degree in classics in 1998 and holds a master of laws in comparative jurisprudence from New York University (MCJ, 2001). He further qualified as a trust and estate practitioner in 2003 and was awarded a STEP advanced certificate in mediation in 2013. He joined Schellenberg Wittmer in 2003 and has been a partner since 2009.

Schellenberg Wittmer is one of the leading business law firms in Switzerland. Over 140 lawyers in Zurich, Geneva and Singapore advise domestic and international clients on all aspects of business law.
