José Evenor Taboada is the president of Consortium Legal and a very active lawyer. In addition, he is currently the Honorary British Consul and Honorary Swedish Consul in Nicaragua and board member of various organisations including Operation Smile Nicaragua (an NGO chapter of Operation Smile International) and Funides (A think tank focused on economic and social development); president of the board at Teletón (an NGO focused on the treatment of disabled children); and president of the board at Unirse (an NGO focused on promoting social responsibility in the private sector). He continues to teach law at the Tomas Moro University.
Mr Taboada has more than 45 years of legal practice. His experience includes legal services to the government of Nicaragua in the negotiations on the external debt with major commercial banks, the IDB, the World Bank and the IMF, as well as the Paris Club. In private practice he has been local counsel for major companies including large local and international companies such as: Wal-Mart, General Electric, Sony, Caterpillar, Citi, GE Finance and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), among others, as well as many of the largest local companies, including banks, electricity and generating companies, and telecommunications and mining companies.
He has served as president of the Central Bank of Nicaragua and Financial Investments; he has also been member of the board of directors of the Superintendence of Banks and Financial Institutions.
Mr Taboada obtained his law degree from the Law School of the University of Chile and a doctorate in legal sciences (JSD) from Cornell University, New York.
He speaks Spanish and English.
