Bernd Ehle is a partner at Lalive in Geneva and a specialist in international commercial arbitration, with more than 13 years' experience. He has acted as counsel and arbitrator in numerous ad hoc and administered international arbitral proceedings (under the ICC, Swiss, ICSID, LCIA, DIS, CAS, Vienna and Danish rules), governed by various procedural and substantive laws including Swiss, English, French, German, New York, Turkish and Ukrainian law. He is experienced in disputes involving the main aspects of commercial transactions, in particular disputes relating to joint ventures, M&A, distribution and agency, and projects in the construction, infrastructure, telecommunications and energy sectors. He also represents parties in Swiss court proceedings related to arbitration.
Dr Ehle is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a former member its European branch committee; co-chair of the Geneva group of the Swiss Arbitration Association and is a member of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration, the German Institution of Arbitration, the Austrian Arbitration Association and the London Court of International Arbitration.
Dr Ehle is dual-qualified as a lawyer in Switzerland and Germany, having studied law at the universities of Freiburg and Heidelberg in Germany, and the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Switzerland. He holds an LLM from Northwestern University (2000) and a PhD in law from the University of Heidelberg (2001). Prior to joining Lalive in 2003, Dr Ehle practised corporate and commercial law and dispute resolution for over three years at Ehle & Schiller in Cologne and Graf von Westphalen in Freiburg im Breisgau.
Dr Ehle is fluent in English, German and French and has some working knowledge of Spanish.
