Becky Wood is an experienced litigator with a wide-ranging practice handling complex commercial and appellate litigation, including product liability and mass tort litigation. She has served as national counsel to numerous medical device and pharmaceutical companies navigating product liability and preemption matters, and counsels life sciences clients about the potential litigation impact of regulatory actions.
Becky has significant experience in multidistrict litigation (MDL) and coordination, federal removal and jurisdiction issues, federal preemption, class actions and multi-plaintiff cases, Frye and Daubert issues, and the defence of product liability and consumer fraud cases. Her expansive appellate practice includes merits and amicus briefing to the United States Supreme Court, and briefing post-trial motions, appeals and petitions for interlocutory appeal and mandamus relief for a variety of clients in federal and state courts nationwide.
Becky holds several leadership positions at Sidley, serving as firmwide co-chair and DC hiring partner on the recruiting of associates committee, and also sits on the firm’s retention and promotion of women, and summer associates programmes committees.
Becky is a member of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), and serves on AdvaMed’s MTLI advisory council. She is also a member of other professional organisations including the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC).
Before joining Sidley, Becky served as a law clerk to the Honourable Pasco M Bowman II on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Becky received her JD in 1998 from New York University School of Law and her BA (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) in 1994 from Yale University.
