David Bateson is a partner in King & Wood Mallesons’ Hong Kong office, where he specialises in construction projects and dispute resolution. David is a founder of the firm’s award-winning Asian construction practice, which has won the ALB Construction Law Firm of the Year five times.
His work involves all forms of dispute resolution, including arbitration, adjudication, litigation and mediation.
David has been a resident of Hong Kong since 1980. He has extensive experience in acting on major projects in the Asia-Pacific region for governments, developers, employers, contractors and subcontractors.
David has acted as an arbitrator, mainly in construction disputes, but also in relation to joint ventures, shareholders, energy, resources and telecommunications. He has acted as a sole arbitrator or a panel member, including as chairman, in over 80 cases.
In recent editions of AsiaLaw, PLC Global Counsel 3000, The Legal 500 – Asia-Pacific and Legal Media Group’s Expert Guide: Commercial Arbitration, David was named as a leading construction lawyer and an expert in commercial arbitration. In Who’s Who Legal: Commercial Arbitration, David was named as a leading arbitrator.
