John Nicholl, BCL, LLB (McGill), Ad E, was one of the founding partners of a leading Canadian insurance defence boutique that merged with Clyde & Co in 2011. Now based primarily in Toronto, he divides his practice between Clyde & Co's Montreal and Toronto offices. He has extensive trial and appellate experience litigating insurance coverage and liability defence cases in both English and French.
Mr Nicholl was formerly a lecturer at the McGill University Faculty of Law, and is currently a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. He was named advocatus emeritus by the Quebec Bar in 2012 and is featured in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (2015) as a leading practitioner in the fields of professional liability; litigation - product liability; litigation – directors' and officers' liability; and litigation – commercial insurance. He will appear in the 2017 compendium edition of Who's Who Legal, and currently appears in Who's Who Legal: Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers (2016); Who's Who Legal: Canada (2015), in the field of insurance and reinsurance and product liability defence; Best Lawyers in Canada (2015), in the fields of class action litigation, directors' and officers' liability, insurance law: commercial, and legal malpractice law: professional liability; and Martindale-Hubbell Top Lawyers in Canada (2013). He holds a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent peer review rating of 5/5 for insurance, professional liability and litigation.
Mr Nicholl is a member of the Quebec Bar and the Law Society of Upper Canada, and is licensed in all Canadian jurisdictions.
