Biography • Product Liability Defence

John W Cowden has been an active trial attorney for over 30 years, having tried numerous major lawsuits involving product liability claims, aircraft accidents, and commercial disputes. He is a member of the Kansas City, Missouri office of Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice LLC and serves on the firm's executive committee. He is a former assistant attorney general for the State of Missouri.

He has handled product liability cases in numerous states including Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, California, Florida and Maryland. He has served as national coordinating counsel for various products and as special product liability counsel in Chapter 11 litigation.

Mr Cowden is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Lawyers (past president of the Western Missouri/Eastern Kansas Chapter), the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Product Liability Advisory Council, the Litigation Counsel of America, and the Defense Research Institute.

He has been recognised in Who's Who in American Law, Chambers USA, Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers (including recognition as a Top 100 Missouri and Top 50 Kansas City attorney), and The Kansas City Business Journal 'Best of the Bar'. He is also a University of Missouri at Columbia School of Law Order of Barristers Honorary Initiate.

Mr Cowden is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth and Tenth Circuits, the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Federal District Courts of Missouri and Kansas.
