Who's Who Legal Switzerland - Competition

Philipp Zurkinden is a partner and head of the competition department at the firm. He advises local and international clients in various sectors and regularly collaborates with international law firms in multi-jurisdictional cartel proceedings and merger filings.

Admitted to the Bar in Berne and Zurich, he earned a PhD at the University of Basel, as well as an LLMEur degree at the European Institute of the Saarland University.

Mr Zurkinden is a professor for Swiss competition law at the University of Basel. He acted as an external expert for the Swiss government, in connection with competition legislation and politics. He is a past president of the European Lawyers Association, chairman of the practice group competition law within the Bernese Bar Association, vice chairman of the competition group within the Swiss Bar Association, member of the board of ASAS, a member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht and the IBA competition groups. Philipp is also a founding trustee of the Emirati-Swiss Friendship Forum (ESFF).

Mr Zurkinden is the author of numerous publications. He speaks fluently German, French, English, ltalian and Spanish.

Together with Dr Marino Baldi, who was the principal drafter of modern Swiss competition legislation, and Bernhard C Lauterburg, Mr Zurkinden has established Prager Dreifuss as one of the pre-eminent competition law firms in Switzerland, with profound knowledge also in EU competition law, facilitating advice in Swiss aspects of parallel proceedings with Brussels. The team regularly provides advice beyond cartel and merger matters, including public procurement, state aid and regulatory matters. From its office in Brussels, the team also provides EU monitoring services in sector specific areas. Both the team and Philipp Zurkinden individually are ranked in Chambers.
