Admitted to the bar in 1995, Olivier Caprasse has been involved in numerous national and international arbitrations as co-arbitrator, chairman, sole arbitrator, counsel and expert in various parts of the world (under, inter alia, the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Belgian Arbitration Centre, the French Arbitration Association, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ivory Coast Chamber of Arbitration, and in ad hoc proceedings).
The cases he has been involved in related to M&A, joint ventures, SPA, insurance, construction, agency, commercial contracts, sales, IT and pharmaceutical contracts, including disputes involving states or state entities.
He has also served as an ICC emergency arbitrator.
A member of the ICC Court and of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, Mr Caprasse is an expert for Belgium in UNCITRAL working group II on arbitration and conciliation.
He also participated in the drafting of the 2013 Belgian statute on arbitration.
Mr Caprasse has a PhD from Liège University and an LLM from New York University. Of Counsel with Hanotiau & van den Berg, he is also a professor of law at the universities of Liège and Brussels (corporate law, ADR and arbitration), and he served as dean of the Liège law school from 2008 to 2012. He is the author of books and more than 100 articles, most of them relating to arbitration.
He speaks French (native speaker), English (fluent) and Dutch (passive knowledge).
