Biography • Mergers and Acquisitions
Prof Dr Christoph H Seibt is a corporate partner in the Hamburg office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. His areas of specialisation are corporate governance and international corporate structures; stock corporation law; corporate finance and refinancings (equity and equity-linked instruments); public M&A and complex M&A transactions; corporate restructurings.Christoph is one of the most highly regarded lawyers in Germany. He has been a partner since 2000, specialising in corporate governance, corporate law, securities markets law and tax law advice. He works largely for listed companies, and is the global co-head of Freshfields' public M&A group. He also regularly advises on capital market transactions and corporate restructurings.
Christoph's clients appreciate his entrepreneurial approach and ability to advise on almost any area of law. He uses his academic network to propagate new legal structures he has devised to help clients achieve their business aims. A secondment to a leading investment bank has left him with a keen sense of the commercial impact of his decisions and he continues to work well in financial situations.
Christoph studied at the universities of Hamburg, Geneva, Singapore and Yale Law School and received his Doctor of Law and LLM. He has been a member of the New York Bar since 1993, he is a Rechtsanwalt of the federal republic of Germany, and a Fachanwalt für Steuerrecht (specialist tax lawyer).
Christoph's recent highlights include advising Praktiker as well as Conergy on their refinancings, Hochtief on its takeover by ACS, Continental on its takeover by Schaeffler and subsequent refinancing, and Aurubis on the acquisition of Luvata's worldwide rolled products business and subsequent post-merger integration.
Chambers Global 2011 noted that "clients greatly admire the quality of Christoph Seibt's advice on high-value matters" and Juve 2011 lists him as "excellent expert, very confident and unpretentious".
