For over 20 years Michael Knoerzer has concentrated his practice on the litigation and arbitration of disputes of interest to insurers and reinsurers, as well as providing advice to insurers and reinsurers in non-contentious matters. He has been recognised as a leading litigator of complex insurance and reinsurance disputes. Michael has been described in Chambers & Partners as 'one of the most talented lawyers in the reinsurance arena', Chambers & Partners 2009, and 'remarkably strong in all kinds of insurance claim defence work. He has an excellent reputation and an understated approach that gets outstanding results', Chambers & Partners 2008. He counts among his clients some of the largest and most prestigious insurers and reinsurers.

Michael has successfully first-chaired numerous especially complex and high-dollar value matters, particularly involving reinsurance claims, insurance-related corporate transactions, life and health insurance and reinsurance programmes, credit risk disputes and insurance insolvency matters. He is a veteran of several centi-million and a number of billion-dollar disputes.

Michael is the managing partner at the New York office of Clyde & Co and is a member of both the firm's management board and the US management board. He is a frequent speaker and author on issues pertaining to insurance and reinsurance, most particularly for ARIAS - US. Michael is a past chair of the excess, surplus lines, and reinsurance committee of the TIPS Section of the American Bar Association.
