Dr Kathrin Westermann is a partner at Noerr and member of the firm's antitrust & competition group. She represents and advises clients on a broad range of antitrust matters, particularly those relating to merger control filings, cartel proceedings before the Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission, and claims for antitrust damages.
Specialising in German and European antitrust and telecommunications law, she further has extensive experience in competition compliance and dawn raid scenarios. Prior to joining Noerr, she worked more than four years with the German Federal Cartel Office.
Kathrin has advised in relation to a number of precedent-setting merger and behavioural investigations as well as regulatory and antitrust litigation. Recent M&A-related matters include representing Oddo & Cie on the acquisition of Meriten Investment Management; Cemex on a series of transactions with Holcim in Europe; Deutsche Telekom on the acquisition of GTS Central Europe; Rocket Internet on the EUR 496 million investment in the online food delivery service Delivery Hero; and ISS Facility Services on the acquisition of Vattenfall’s facility services company by way of outsourcing. Recent behavioural and contentious work includes representing Cemex in the German cement cartel follow-on litigation, nominated as litigation of the year 2014 by Global Competition Review; representing an international airfreight company on the defence of damages claims in connection with the airfreight cartel; advising the German football league on antitrust aspects of the media rights marketing concept; and representing Holtzbrinck/Macmillan on the EU e-book settlement which was named European behavioural matter of the year (2013) by Global Competition Review.
Kathrin is co-publisher of the periodical Neue Zeitschrift für Kartellrecht (NZKart) and author of various articles and books on German and European antitrust law. She regularly lectures on antitrust and merger control issues. She is a member of the Antitrust Lawyers' Association, and is recognised as one of Germany's leading competition lawyers, with listings in Chambers Europe, The Legal 500 and the German JUVE Handbook, where she is also highlighted as a "leading name" in media antitrust. She continues to be selected by peer for inclusion in the Who's Who Legal, and has been selected among Germany's preeminent antitrust lawyers by German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche. Kathrin was educated at the Universities of Berlin, Göttingen and Vienna.
