Juliano Souza de Albuquerque Maranhão is founding partner of Sampaio Ferraz Advogados, a highly renowned Brazilian boutique law firm specialised in economic law, competition and regulatory law.Juliano Maranhão graduated from the University of São Paulo, where he later completed his PhD and his habilitation in law, and became professor of law. He undertook postdoctoral studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He was also a visiting scholar at the Universities of Miami (United States), Leipzig (Germany) and Maastricht (Netherlands). With 16 years of professional experience in antitrust and regulatory law, Juliano Maranhão has taken part in some of the most complex cases before CADE, representing clients such as Oi, Saint-Gobain, Cosan, Raízen, Itau, Globo, CSN, Banco do Brasil in emblematic mergers (Oi/Brasil Telecom; Itaú/Unibanco; Gerdau/Sidenor; joint venture between Cosan and Shell generating Raízen; opposition to Sadia/Perdigão) and investigations of anti-competitive conduct. A former adviser to CADE's presidency, Juliano Maranhão has published many articles, books and papers on logic and argumentation, competition and regulatory law in the mainstream national and international legal journals.
