Senator Udoma has been described in Who’s Who Legal as “one of the pillars of the Nigerian legal community”.
As the firm’s founding and senior partner, he has a wealth of experience across the firm’s practice areas and has developed specialisations in energy and natural resources, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions. In the course of his legal practice, he has led and advised on regulatory reviews on the implementation of public policy and implementation of reform programmes across various sectors of the Nigerian economy, including petroleum and solid minerals, industrial policy, revenue allocation and fiscal issues.
He has served on several national committees and commissions, including serving as the first chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and recently, as the non-executive chairman of the Nigerian Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). A former legislator, Senator Udoma has held a number of public positions, such as chief whip of the Nigerian Senate and special adviser to the Federal Minister of Petroleum Resources.
He serves on the board of several companies and was recently appointed as the non-executive chairman of Nigeria’s largest conglomerate.
He recently served as the vice chairman of the Presidential Committee on Constitutional Reform and is currently the head of the Special Task Force set up by the Nigerian government to harmonise the various versions of the Petroleum Industry Bill into one.
He also co-led the team of lawyers that provided advice to the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in connection with the structuring and establishment of a Sovereign Wealth Fund and drafted the enabling legislation that established the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority. He currently heads the team providing legal advice to the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority. Senator Udoma is widely recognised in international rankings, such as Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.
