Biography • Competition

Jason regularly provides strategic advice to domestic and foreign firms involved in merger and joint venture transactions, including providing risk assessments and navigating reviews through the Canadian Competition Bureau. He also provides advice in respect of strategic alliances, unilateral conduct, cartel investigations and compliance matters. Jason has been involved in the negotiation of complex remedies and orders with the Competition Bureau and before the Competition Tribunal in the context of both mergers and cartel investigations. Jason also advises clients with respect to misleading advertising and unfair competition practices.

Jason advises foreign and Canadian vendors under the Investment Canada Act (ICA) and represents clients before the investment review division of Industry Canada and the cultural sector investment review branch of Canadian Heritage. He has negotiated undertakings in a wide range of industries to secure "net benefit to Canada" determinations, the standard necessary for reviewable investments to be completed under the ICA. Jason has worked on the clearance of some of the largest state-owned enterprise transactions over the past few years.

Jason is recognised as a leading lawyer in various domestic and international legal publications, including Law Business Research's The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, 2013 and 2014 editions (competition), and Who's Who Legal: Canada 2013 (competition); Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business 2013 (competition/antitrust); The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2013 (competition); and Legal Media Group's Guide to the World's Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers/Economists 2014. He has also been selected by Global Competition Review as one of the world’s top 40 antitrust lawyers under 40 (May 2008) and by Lexpert magazine as one of Canada's "rising stars” in their “Leading Lawyers Under 40" feature (November/December 2008).
