Utku Cosar is a partner at Cosar Avukatlik Burosu specialising in commercial and investment arbitration. Ms Cosar represents public and private clients in international arbitration with extensive experience involving energy, construction and post-M&A disputes.
Her experience includes representing Turkey in three ICSID arbitrations brought under the Energy Charter Treaty for a combined claim of US$18 billion. Other experience includes advising a leading natural gas company in an ICC dispute involving damages claims and representation of an energy company in an ICC arbitration involving a construction dispute. In recent years, she has represented clients in four other international arbitration cases before the ICC involving damages claims, each in excess of US$100 million. Ms Cosar’s recent experience includes representation of clients in post M&A ICC arbitration disputes involving damages claims.
Ms Cosar is a member of the ABA, the IBA, the ICCA, the LCIA, the New York State Bar Association and the Istanbul Bar, and has been ranked in the top tier for dispute resolution lawyers in Turkey by Chambers and The Legal 500 for the past nine consecutive years. She serves on the editorial boards of the Dispute Resolution International Journal (IBA) and the ICC Dispute Resolution Journal.
She received two LLM degrees from Georgetown University in master of law and international legal studies, and is admitted to practise in New York and Turkey. Ms Cosar speaks Turkish and English.
