Grace is a partner in Bird and Bird’s corporate and commercial group based in Beijing. She has worked at international law firms in China for more than a decade, focusing on helping companies in the IT, media, life sciences and clean-tech industries with their corporate and commercial transactions.
By combining industry-sector knowledge and strong legal skills with a practical approach to doing business, Grace has successfully helped many technology-intensive companies in navigating China’s ever-changing legal landscape, assisting clients to optimise their business structures as well as to formulate and implement robust IP strategies, leveraging off of her in-depth knowledge of China’s legal environment and extensive experience in handling issues relating to technology transfer and IP protection in China.
Grace also advises on regulatory issues such as those involving e-commerce, telecommunications, data protection, encryption, standards, advertising, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. In addition, she counsels clients on labour law issues, specialising in invention assignments, non-competition and IP protection in the employment context.
Grace previously served as a member of the international human embryonic stem cell guidelines task force, which drafted the ISSCR guidelines for human embryonic stem cell research.
Grace received a BS degree from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, a JD degree from University of California at Berkeley, and MS degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a member of the State Bar of California (USA) and is registered to practice as a patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Grace was selected for inclusion in The International Who’s Who of Life Sciences Lawyers in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and The International Who’s Who of Internet, e-Commerce and Data Protection Lawyers as a premier lawyer in those fields for China. She has also been ranked by IAM Licensing 250 as one of the world’s leading patent and technology licensing lawyers and by PLC Which Lawyer? as a ‘recommended lawyer’ in the telecommunications category for China.
