Thomas Tschentscher is a TMT partner and works out of Freshfields’ Frankfurt office.
He covers the complete range of German administrative, commercial law and EU law with a focus on the regulatory and public affairs aspects of contentious and non-contentious projects in regulated markets, primarily in the TMT sector. His recent work ranges from telecoms and cable consolidation projects over frequency and tariff regulation to legal issues triggered by new technology trends such as M2M and IoT or technical forensic projects. His clients include Vodafone Group Germany and Liberty Global.
He advises international clients, combining practical legal expertise with a thorough understanding of the underlying technical, economic and political issues.
Thomas draws on his market and sector-specific knowledge – and his contacts to decision-makers and the regulators – to give financial and strategic investors a clearer understanding of the legal, regulatory and political ramifications of large-scale TMT investments in Germany, the EU, CEE/CIS and MENA.
Prior to joining the firm in 1989, Thomas was Assistant to the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (Paris), joined the firm in 1989. He has been a partner since 1993.
Thomas studied at the University of Munich and Bonn and the London School of Economics. He holds a doctorate in law (Dr jur) from the University of Bonn and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Virginia School of Law.
