Karen Patton Seymour is the firm’s management committee member. She represents individuals, corporations and financial institutions in state/federal proceedings regarding securities fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, insider trading, FCPA violations, OFAC sanctions, healthcare fraud, criminal antitrust violations. She also advises non-US parties regarding US investigations, and works on jury/bench trials in federal/appeals court.
Karen has been a partner at the firm since 2000. Previous roles include public service in the US Attorney’s Office, SDNY, acting as chief of the criminal division (2002–2004) overseeing the WorldCom, Adelphia and ImClone investigations and leading the Martha Stewart/Peter Bacanovic prosecution.
Karen was educated at the University of London (LLM, 1987); the University of Texas Law School (JD, 1986); and Southern Methodist University (BS; BA, 1983).
Karen is recognised as a leading litigator in the white-collar crime and government investigations chapter of Chambers USA (2006–2015), as well as the financial services regulation: banking (regulatory enforcement and investigations) chapter (2007–2015). She is also recognised as a leading litigator in Best Lawyers in America, in the fields of white-collar criminal defence (2007–2015), commercial litigation (2007–2015), litigation-regulatory enforcement (SEC, telecom, energy) (2012–2015) and litigation-securities (2012–2015). She receives further recommendation in The Legal 500: United States for white-collar criminal defence (2007–2014) and corporate governance and SEC investigations (2007). Additionally, Karen is ranked in Euromoney’s Benchmark Litigation as one of the “Top 10 Women Litigators” in their list of the top 250 women in litigation (2012–2014); the guide also recognises her as a “star” for white-collar litigation (national) and litigation (New York) (2008–2014).
