Femi Olubanwo is a founding partner of Banwo & Ighodalo, one of the leading corporate and commercial law firms in Nigeria. He graduated with an LLB honours degree from the University of Lagos in 1981 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in July, 1982. After a short stint with the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, he joined the Lagos Commercial law firm of Chris O Okunowo & Co in September 1983. In February 1991, he co-founded the law firm, Banwo & Ighodalo as a partnership.  The firm has since grown from two partners and one associate to more than 90 lawyers today including 12 partners, with offices in Lagos and Abuja.

A full service firm, Banwo & Ighodalo is well known for its many high profile transactions in its specialised areas of capital markets, financing, project finance, mergers & acquisitions and energy. 

Femi practises largely in investments, banking and corporate finance, project finance, mining and intellectual property.He is especially versed in project and corporate finance and has been engaged in a very wide variety of in-country and international financing transactions over the last 30 years. He has led or participated in many of his firm’s important financing transactions and is ranked as a leading Nigerian lawyer by renowned international law directories such as Chambers and PartnersIFLR 1000 and Who's Who Legal. He has written many articles and frequently delivers papers and gives presentations on subjects in his core practice areas. He is a member of various law and business related professional bodies

In the public sector, he has served as a member of the Bureau of Public Enterprises’ solid minerals sector steering committee; as a resource person for the Presidential Technical Committee on Solid Minerals Development; as a member of the Presidential Technical Committee on the Development of Coal Production in Nigeria; and as chairman, Committee to Create a Code of Governance/Ethics for Capital Markets Regulators.

He is a director of many companies operating in diverse sectors of the Nigerian economy as well as several not-for-profit organisations, particularly in the area of education.

He has taken a special interest in the growth and development of law firms in Nigeria and has spoken at different fora on diverse topics relating to the running of law firms as a business.

Femi is a consummate teacher and adviser and is passionate about seeing young Nigerians grow and become agents of change in our nation.

His hobbies are reading, driving, travel, snooker and, recently, golf. He is married with three adult children.
