Who's Who Legal Arbitration: Lawyers

Gabrielle Nater-Bass is a partner in Homburger's litigation and arbitration practice team.

She is an experienced party counsel and arbitrator (presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator) in international commercial arbitration, ad hoc and institutional, with in-depth experience in matters relating to joint ventures, shareholder agreements, M&A disputes, natural resources and energy (including gas pricing and electricity trading), long-term supply contracts, construction, agency and distribution contracts, international commodity sales, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.

Gabrielle Nater-Bass also regularly acts as counsel in large commercial litigations before the state courts in all Swiss cantons.

She is listed on the panel of arbitrators of the ICC national committee (Switzerland), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). She was recognised by Global Arbitration Review as one of the magazine's "all female top 30" women in arbitration and currently serves as president of the Arbitration Court of the Swiss Chambers' Arbitration Institution (SCAI). She is also a board member of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA).

Gabrielle Nater-Bass is further a member of the International Board of the Finnish Arbitration Institute and vice president of ArbitralWomen. She was invited to join the SIAC Users Council and ICDR International Advisory Committee and co-chairs the ICCA-ASIL Task Force on Damages.

She graduated from the University of Zurich in 1994, and was admitted to the Bar in 1996. She obtained an LLM degree from Virginia School of Law in 1999. Before becoming a partner at Homburger in 2006, she worked as an associate at Homburger from 1997 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2005. She was a foreign associate at WilmerHale, in Washington, DC, and London, from 1998 to 2000.

Gabrielle Nater-Bass has published numerous articles in the field of commercial arbitration and litigation, most recently “Contractual Limitations on Damages”, which appeared in The Guide to Damages in International Arbitration (2016).

She specialises in advising high-net-worth individuals, family offices and trustees in complex cross-border matters relating to estate and succession planning, the setting-up of wealth protection structures (such as trusts) and in relation to foundations. She also has extensive experience in art matters, including estate planning for art collections, and art purchases and sales.

Ms Nater-Bass further advises high-net-worth individuals in relation to relocations to Switzerland, the acquisition and sale of real estate, wills, marriage and inheritance agreements.
