Nigel Montgomery is a partner in Sidley's London office. His practice focuses on insurance transactions and regulation. He has a particular emphasis on cyber-risk and insurance as well as reorganisation, risk transfers for – and reconstruction of – UK and international insurance and reinsurance companies, not least in preparation for Solvency II. He is also a licensed insolvency practitioner and has acted as liquidator, administrative receiver and administrator for a wide variety of companies.
He writes and lectures widely on insurance issues and established the Cyber Risk Think Tank in London. Nigel has been responsible for a number of leading cases involving insurance restructuring, including Charter Re, the then House of Lords decision on “Pay as Paid” clauses, the Hawk Insurance case in the Court of Appeal on voting classes for schemes of arrangement and the successful sanction of a number of high-profile schemes of arrangement. He is an English solicitor and graduated from Cambridge University.
