Biography • Life Sciences - Product Liability

Michael W Davis is head of Sidley's products liability and mass torts practice and serves as secretary of Sidley's executive committee. Mr Davis is extensively engaged in the nationwide defense of product liability claims involving pharmaceuticals, chemicals, consumer products, and food products. His practice also emphasises complex multiparty and class action litigation. Mr Davis has served as national coordinating counsel in pharmaceutical, food products, and chemical litigation. He has successfully argued or tried more than 50 motions for class certification.

Mr Davis is featured as a 'Life Sciences Star' in the inaugural edition of LMG Life Sciences 2012 for his outstanding products liability work. Mr Davis has been selected as a leading lawyer in product liability matters by the American Research Corporation, Benchmark Litigation, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business - The Client's Guide, The International Who's Who Legal of Business Lawyers, The Legal 500, and the PLC Cross-Border Life Sciences Handbook, Which Lawyer.

Mr Davis has handled product safety issues arising under the Consumer Product Safety Act. He also has performed product liability due diligence investigations in connection with potential corporate acquisitions, and has counseled clients on product warnings and labeling, on product liability indemnification agreements, and on proposed tort reform legislation.

Mr Davis has lectured at seminars on various evidentiary matters and has written many articles on pharmaceutical, product liability, and toxic tort litigation. He received his JD (cum laude) from Northwestern University in 1975 and his BA (magna cum laude) from Binghamton University in 1972. He is currently a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the International Association of Defense Counsel.
