John Bodrug is a partner in Davies' competition and foreign investment review practice and the investigations and white-collar defence practice, with extensive experience in all aspects of competition law, including international and domestic mergers, price-fixing investigations, pricing and distribution matters, advertising and marketing. He represents and advises corporations in many industry sectors and also defends firms subject to inquiry under the criminal provisions of the Competition Act, whether in the context of contested matters, resolutions short of proceedings, or immunity or leniency agreements. John has also acted as a special counsel for the Competition Bureau in competition tribunal proceedings relating to Interac, the shared electronic financial services network, under the Competition Act.
John was named Toronto competition/antitrust lawyer of the year (2017) by Best Lawyers in Canada. He is recognised annually as a leading lawyer in the area of competition and antitrust in Expert Guides' Guide to the World's Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers; Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business; Chambers Canada (Band 1); The Legal 500: Canada; the Lexpert Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-border Corporate Lawyers in Canada; The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada; and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
John is a former chair of the national competition law section of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), and is a member of the CBA's anti-corruption team. He is a co-editor of Competition Law of Canada (Juris Publishing) and a member of the editorial board of The Antitrust Source, an online publication of the antitrust section of the American Bar Association (ABA). He has appeared before parliamentary committees, written numerous articles and is a frequent speaker at ABA, CBA and other conferences. John was called to the Ontario Bar in 1987.
