Who's Who Legal Banking: Regulatory

Ricardo M Arango joined Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega in 1987 and became a partner in 1995. He is head of the firm’s capital markets and banking practice group. His practice focuses on securities regulations; banking and finance; mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures; corporations; and taxation.

Mr Arango has been instrumental in the creation of many financial structures now common in Panama and has been involved in many of the country’s landmark capital market deals.

Mr Arango is secretary of the board of directors of BLADEX, a NYSE-listed company; director and secretary of the Panama Stock Exchange; director of BG Investments, a securities firm affiliated with Banco General; director of Corporación La Prensa, the largest circulation paper in Panama; and member of the Latin America Business Council. He headed the Presidential Commission that drafted Panama’s current securities act and drafted the rules of operation of LatinClear, Panama’s clearing and settlement agency.

Mr Arango completed his LLB at the University of Panama (1983), an LLM at Harvard Law School (1984) and an LLM at Yale Law School (1985). He was a Fulbright scholar. He is admitted to the bar in Panama and New York.
