George Addy leads Davies' competition and foreign investment review practice and is also a member of the following practices: technology, communications and media; investigations and white collar defence; and advertising, marketing, and distribution. He focuses on all aspects of competition law, including strategic advice on matters involving domestic and foreign regulators regarding cartels, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, abuse of dominance and other reviewable matters in all sectors of the economy. He provides advice and representation on legal and regulatory requirements to firms seeking to invest in Canada. He also frequently provides strategic and legal advice to firms in the telecoms, broadcasting, and internet sectors and advises on anti-corruption matters.
George has represented clients in numerous provincial and federal court proceedings and judicial inquiries. Clients include private sector clients, the Canadian Competition Bureau, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and the Attorney General of Canada. George has also frequently testified before House of Commons and Senate committees.
Prior to joining the firm in 2002, George was head of the Canadian Competition Bureau from 1993 to 1996 after leading the mergers branch from 1989 to 1993 when he was appointed head of the bureau. In 1996 he left public service to become executive vice president and chief general counsel with TELUS Inc, one of Canada's largest telecommunications companies.
George was named Toronto Competition/Antitrust Law Lawyer of the Year 2012 by Best Lawyers.
