Veirano Advogados

Since it was founded in 1972, Veirano Advogados has grown to become one of Brazil’s most distinguished law firms. Many of its practitioners boast invaluable experience in leading law firms across the US and Europe, enabling them to approach matters with a lateral and international mind-set. With offices across Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Porto Alegre and Brasilia, the firm is well placed to assist both domestic and international clients with their business needs in the country.

With a “stellar reputation” in the Brazilian market, the firm’s corporate group regularly handles some of the country’s most-complex and high-profile transactions for major domestic and international companies. With previous experience studying and practicing in the US, managing partner Ricardo Veirano is recognised for his M&A and governance advice. He recently helped Europe’s largest paper packaging company Smurfit Kappa establish a presence in Brazil through the acquisition of two paper producers. He is joined by Lior Pinsky who is also recognised for his private funds works. The team is exceedingly well versed in all aspects of corporate law including purchase and shareholder agreements, due diligence, contract negotiation and compliance and regulatory advice, making it a one-stop shop for clients doing business in the country.

The M&A practice is known for working closely alongside the firm’s “world-class” labour and employment group, in order to gauge a more complete understanding of the client’s business. The “exceptionally smart” José Carlos Wahlé leads the practice group that expertly handles both individual and collective claims, as well as disputes in relation to issues such as outsourcing. Luiz Migliora is particularly highlighted for his “sensitive handling” of high-profile and complex labour issues. He also achieves a listing for his work in product liability defence, another area in which Veirano Advogados excels, boasting half of the listings in this edition’s chapter.

The firm is also renowned for its particularly impressive energy offering. Practitioners, including leader of the oil and gas group Luis Fernando Pacheco, deliver “strategic and considered counsel” to a diverse range of sector professionals such as exploration, production and energy transportation companies. The mining group, with three listings, performs better in the field than any other firm in our research. The internationally renowned team, including former managing partner Pedro Aguiar de Freitas, regularly deals with mining licences, government grants, mining site constructions and corporate matters for mining companies.

With 30 listings across 18 practice areas, Veirano Advogados demonstrates the sheer breadth of its talent, cementing its position as one of Brazil’s pre-eminent law firms.
