Morgan & Morgan

Morgan & Morgan is one of the top law firms in Panama and Central America, with a reputably strong standing in corporate, shipping, finance and private client law. It is a member of the Morgan & Morgan Group (MMG), which provides services in 20 offices across three continents. Recent highlights include advising Balboa Bank & Trust Corp as arranger in the public offering of Stocks by Latin American Kraft Investment for $25 million. The firm is also at the centre of the most important public infrastructure project in Panama – advising Metro de Panama on the EPC contract for Line 2 of the Metro of Panama.

The firm’s corporate and finance practice group includes several leading lights. Co-head Francisco Arias in Panama is described as an “outstanding figure”, with financing and corporate transactions stretching from electricity generation and insurance, to construction and hospitality. He is also listed in project finance for his “vast experience”, which includes advising on the Panama Central Expansion project. Also in Panama, fellow co-head Inocencio Galindo is also a noted figure in both corporate and finance transactions. He is also well-respected in the natural resources field.

Shipping is a key area for the firm, with two standout practitioners. Juan David Morgan Jr leads the maritime litigation practice, and is widely regarded as a “sensational lawyer” in this space. The “excellent” Enrique de Alba has acted for international clients including shipowners and charterers, and has overseen deals involving finance transactions of vessels for several billions of dollars.

Head of MMG trusts Eduardo Morgan B III is standout player in private client matters; he regularly advises high net worth individuals on estate planning and asset protection. Rishi Mungal heads the Belize trusts practice and is also a recognised name in the field.

Meanwhile, Carlos Ernesto González Ramírez in Panama is recognised for his “outstanding knowledge” of competition and regulatory law. María Eugenia Brenes is a “rising star” whose practice includes all matters of IP law, including litigation related to opposition claims against trademark registrations and criminal action against IP rights infringements.
