Arias emerges as the leading firm in our report on the Central American legal market, with a market-leading 62 listings across 12 practice areas. As the largest law firm in our research, it boasts eight integrated offices across the isthmus, standing out in the Costa Rican and Salvadorean markets with a particularly impressive showing in corporate and finance law and dispute resolution. It is widely endorsed by legal teams internationally and its prominent multinational clients include Citibank, Unilever, Swisher International, Mondelēz International, Statoil and Chevron.

Its corporate practice is one of the best in the region, with 10 lawyers listed in our report. Last year the firm successfully assisted global clients in largescale acquisition deals, including assisting private equity firm Advent International in acquiring a 30 per cent interest in Avianca’s LifeMiles frequent flyer business.

Nicaragua corporate department head Ana Teresa Rizo is considered a “superb” lawyer, whose expertise in corporate law is “well established”. She is also recommended for her administrative, tax and finance law practices. Also in Costa Rica, Pedro Muñoz is an “internationally renowned” transactional lawyer. He has advised on stock sales for a major Nicaraguan telecoms company, and on the multi-jurisdictional divestiture of the production line of a major food company.

The firm also has a strong showing in finance, where nine members of its team are listed. Zygmunt Brett in El Salvador is well-thought of in our corporate, energy and finance chapters. He has an impressive portfolio of clients and has served as counsel for Chevron Texaco, United Airlines and Starbucks, where he has been described as “invaluable”.

Eduardo Ángel heads the litigation department in El Salvador and is praised as a litigator and arbitrator, where he displays “considered and innovative solutions”. Fanny Rodríguez Del Cid heads the litigation team in Honduras and is “highly adept and experienced” in a wide range of corporate and commercial disputes.

Siaska Lorenzo in Panama is recommended for energy and labour law practices. She has particular expertise in public contracts and is said to be “extremely knowledgeable and practical”. In Nicaragua, Róger Pérez is nominated for his labour law practice, while he receives endorsements as “a rising star” in real estate acquisitions.
