Schellenberg Wittmer

Schellenberg Wittmer is one of Switzerland’s leading business law firms, offering clients a full service with a roster of senior practitioners who are often considered leaders in the market. This year the firm garners an impressive 67 listings across 25 practice areas, with the firm performing particularly strongly in the fields of dispute resolution, asset recovery, corporate tax, private client and business crime defence.

Arbitration is the firm’s leading practice area in our research, with seven names recommended in this field. Elliott Geisinger is head of the firm’s international arbitration group, and is “highly commended” for his work on complex commercial disputes and is deemed a “reassuring adviser”. He also garners inclusion in our construction chapter in this edition. Nathalie Voser is recognised for both her litigation and arbitration practices, and is highlighted for her “strategic approach” and “fantastic advice”. Martin Bernet gains listings in our asset recovery, litigation and insurance chapters as well as for his arbitration work. He is an “all-time great” whose clients laud his “wealth of experience”. Georg von Segesser is noted for his arbitration and private client work, and is a “great asset to the firm” according to peers.

Four further names are also listed for their private client work. Manuel Liatowitsch specialises in complex estate disputes and advises entrepreneurs and families on governance and succession in family businesses, and on estate planning and philanthropy. He is a “distinguished player” and a “definite inclusion on any list”. David Wallace Wilson advises individuals and families on wealth structuring and estate planning for their personal and business assets, and is a “firm favourite” with clients.

There are four more practitioners recognised for their work in asset recovery, including Paul Gully-Hart and Benjamin Borsodi. Both also feature in our business crime defence and investigations listings. Gully-Hart is a “legal genius” and “in a league of his own”, while Borsodi boasts “exceptional attention to detail” and is “unflappable” according to clients.

The firm’s corporate tax practice is also highlighted for its four recommendations. Harun Can specialises in Swiss and international tax matters for multinational corporations and private equity funds and has special knowledge regarding the relocation of their managers to Switzerland. His “ability to get to the heart of the issue” helps to make him a “first choice” for many. Michael Nordin is head of the firm’s taxation group in Zurich and recommended for his “calm demeanour” and “no-nonsense approach”.

Other notable inclusions from the firm include Andrea Mondini, who is recognised as a leading practitioner in our franchise, life sciences, patents, TMT and trademarks chapters. Martin Lanz heads the firm’s banking and finance group in Zurich and is recommended for his “stellar” banking, capital markets and investment management work. Oliver Triebold specialises in capital markets, corporate governance and M&A matters and is a “high-flyer” who “knows his stuff inside out”.
