Homburger is a leading independent corporate law firm in Zurich with an excellent reputation both domestically and internationally. The breadth and depth of the firm is exhibited in the fact that it is recognised in 22 practice area chapters in our research, with particular strength in disputes resolution, capital markets, M&A, banking and tax law. 

In dispute resolution the firm offers a team of 25 dedicated lawyers, with almost half listed in this edition. Team leader Felix Dasser is considered a “top-tier” practitioner in both our litigation and arbitration chapters. He is experienced in a wide variety of commercial disputes, including white-collar crime. Markus Wirth is considered “an elder statesman of the bar” and a “fantastic arbitrator”, who is “always able to strike the right balance”. Gabrielle Nater-Bass is “a star” in both international commercial arbitration and Swiss court litigation. She is described as “extremely focused and very efficient” by clients. She is also considered a leader in private client matters. Balz  Gross is deputy head of the disputes litigation and arbitration practice, and head of the labour and employment practice. According to one respondent he is an “absolutely superb counsel, very strategic and business orientated”. Georg  Naegeli is another “outstanding performer” in both international arbitration and state court litigation. 

Homburger boasts a leading capital markets and banking team active in a variety of high-profile financing transactions, as well as in complex domestic and cross-border regulatory issues for banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions. Head of the financial services team Benedikt Maurenbrecher is considered “a first-rate” capital markets and banking practitioner. Peers add that he is “a pleasure to work with” and “very knowledgeable”. René Bösch is regularly seen as “one of the leader finance lawyers in the country”, with one peer noting that “out of all my competitors I admire him the most”. He specialises in banking law and financial services regulation, as well as debt and equity securities.

Daniel Daeniker, the managing partner of the firm, is the most highly regarded corporate lawyer in our research this year; he is also highly recommended for his equity capital markets and financial services regulation expertise. Sources praise his “brilliant negotiating skills” and “highly pragmatic approach”. Dieter Gericke is also strongly recommended for both his corporate and equity capital markets practices. According to one source, “he offers very responsive and informed advice, in a clear and articulate manner.”

The firm is a centre of corporate tax advice, offering a comprehensive service to international and domestic clients. Peter Riedweg is a certified tax expert, specialising in tax structuring of complex corporate and capital market transactions.
