Baker & McKenzie

Baker & McKenzie is one of the largest law firms in Switzerland, with offices in Geneva and Zurich. It prides itself on the cost-efficient and innovative solutions that it provides to clients, whilst helping them to effectively promote their interests and reach their business objectives. As an international firm with offices around the world, it is able to deliver “outstanding legal support” to clients, on domestic, international and multijurisdictional matters.

Three leading lawyers achieve listings in our banking chapter this year. Baker & McKenzie’s banking and finance practice provides “brilliant” services to clients that include major commercial banks, private banks, corporate clients, and other financial institutions. Markus  Affentranger possesses more than 20 years of experience in the sector, and specialises in acquisition finance and syndicated loans. The “fantastic” Marcel Giger co-chairs the firm’s banking and finance group in Zurich, and is also recognised for his work in capital markets. Also representing the firm is Lukas Glanzmann who is admired for his “strategic approach” to cases.

Capital markets is another practice area in which the firm excels. It provides “effective” advice to clients on primary and secondary equity offerings, public take-overs and debt offerings. Matthias Courvoisier is described by peers as a “standout individual”, and he also receives recognition this year for his corporate governance work. Alongside him, the “talented” Theodor Härtsch heads the firm’s capital markets practice group in Zurich, and is commended for his “sharp intellect” and “resolute focus”.

The firm possesses vast experience in a wide range of real estate matters, including financing and developing commercial, retail, industrial and residential property. Three advocates receive listings this year, including Alexander Wyss, who is admired by clients for his “dedicated practice” and “professionalism”. He is joined by the “formidable” Martin Furrer, whose practice encompasses advising clients on real estate and corporate transactions. Daniel Peregrina is regarded as a “highly intelligent” practitioner, and is also recognised in our environment chapter.

The firm is represented by three individuals in our private client chapter. Marnin Michaels “continues to impress” this year, as he focuses on international estate planning and taxation of trusts for families with connections in the US. He is joined by the “superb” Stephanie Jarrett who heads the firm’s wealth management group in Geneva. Richard Gassmann is renowned as a “top-notch litigator” and garners listings in our private client and commercial litigation chapters.

Baker & McKenzie continues to demonstrate a prominent legal presence in Switzerland. This year it achieves 23 listings across 14 practice areas – a clear indication of the depth and breadth of its expertise.
