Squire Patton Boggs recruits international dispute resolution counsel Haig Oghigian

Haig Oghigian has been hired by Squire Patton Boggs to lead its international arbitration practice in Tokyo.

Oghigian’s practice is primarily focused on international dispute resolution. He offers particular expertise in the life sciences and pharmaceuticals sectors. He has acted as counsel, arbitrator and mediator in over 100 cases.

Who’s Who Legal’s research on arbitration in Japan has highlighted Oghigian as being ”extremely well known in the market”. He is noted for his vast experience acting as party-appointed arbitrator and counsel in International Chamber of Commerce and Japan Commercial Arbitration Association arbitrations.

Oghigian said: “I’m very pleased to be joining Squire Patton Boggs. The firm’s long history in Asia, coupled with its global platform and market leading international dispute resolution team, led me to conclude that it is a perfect fit for my practice and client base.”

Ken Kurosu, Asia practice coordinator and Tokyo managing partner, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Haig to the firm. Haig’s cross-border arbitration capabilities and experience in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors in Japan nicely complement and enhance our Asia-Pacific regional practice in these areas and globally.”

George von Mehren, global chair of Squire Patton Boggs’ international dispute resolution practice, stated: “Haig is well known and respected for his arbitration experience in Tokyo, as both a sitting arbitrator and party advocate.” He went on to add: “With an increasing emphasis in Asia on international arbitration, Haig will complement our existing global strength and help drive our practice in this region, supporting our teams in Singapore, Seoul and Australia. He will be a tremendous asset to the firm and our clients.”

Haig Oghigian is recognised in Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration (2016), Who’s Who Legal: Mediation (2016) and Who’s Who Legal: Japan (arbitration section) (2016).
