Pinsent Masons adds French firm to boost TMT practice
Pinsent Masons has expanded its international TMT practice with the acquisition of a six-strong team from Ichay & Mullenex Avocats (IMA) including name partners Diane Mullenex and Frédéric Ichay and Annabelle Richard who joins as a legal director. The team will join in the new year.
Ichay & Mullenex Avocats has focused on technology, telecoms, gaming and e-commerce transactions since its formation in 2004 spreading its services across Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa.
Mullenex will head the firm’s international telecoms department; its gambling and gaming group and will continue her current role as co-chair of the IBA communications committee.
An expert in telecommunications, Mullenex previously headed the technology media telecommunications department at IMA working primarily on corporate transactions with high added value such as roaming, distribution agreements and interconnection.
Ichay brings a wealth of experience in investment funds and private equity, corporate finance transactions and financing acquisitions specifically within the renewable energy sector. He also has experience handling telecoms matters alongside Mullenex including advising the Dubai Sovereign Fund on a telecommunications project in Mali as part of the privatisation of the national incumbent, which subsequently led to obtaining a third telecoms licence.
Richard works on highly complex telecommunications projects both from an operational and regulatory perspective. She is particularly involved in matters relating to the regulations on the internet including e-commerce, online games and cyber-security.
Clive Seddon, head of TMT and sourcing at Pinsent Masons says that the addition of the new team will allow the firm to offer clients “truly joined-up” international TMT services.
“Diane is a prominent name in the international market, while Frédéric and Annabelle also come with stand-out reputations. They enhance our cross-border capabilities in Europe, Asia Pacific, the Gulf and Africa, and complement the existing IP-focused practice in Paris led by Emmanuel Gougé” he says.
Speaking of her new firm, Mullenex says:
“Pinsent Masons’ international expansion over the past 18 months has been impressive and we believe it offers the right platform for us to offer a more comprehensive service to our international clients. The firm’s strong technology-focussed practice in Munich, led by Florian von Baum, is particularly impressive – as is Pinsent Masons' footprint across Asia Pacific.”
The trio all have listings in Who’s Who Legal publications for their expertise in relation to information technology, telecoms and sports and entertainment.
