Cooley’s DC office to grow following Dow Lohnes merger
In January 2014 Cooley will add the Washington DC office of Dow Lohnes to its practice.
The merge will bring an additional 54 lawyers propelling the combined firm into the top 30 in Washington DC law firm by size and further enhancing Cooley’s existing practices in media and communications, as well as offering a new strength in relation to higher education.
Combined, the firm will boast over 750 lawyers across 11 offices in the United States and China.
John Byrnes, managing partner of Dow Lohnes, says that the opportunity to merge was the next step for the firms’ evolution: “In Cooley we have found the perfect partner – a firm with fantastic lawyers who can serve the full spectrum of our clients’ most important legal needs, and a cherished culture of teamwork and transparency. We could not be more excited about our common future.”
Cooley’s chief executive officer Joseph Conroy says that both firms share a common:
“Around DC there was intense competition for this outstanding group of professionals, who have carefully positioned themselves with a view to joining a broader platform. We are thrilled to partner with them and shape a stronger future together.”
