Joseph Wayland joins insurance giant ACE as general counsel
Joseph Wayland has joined multi-line property and casualty insurers ACE as general counsel.
The move, which took place on 8 July from Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett’s litigation practice, comes only nine months after Wayland rejoined the firm following two years at the United States Department of Justice. During this time he served first as deputy assistant attorney general before becoming the acting assistant attorney general in charge of the antitrust division.
ACE’s chairman and CEO Evan Greenberg said of the appointment: “I am delighted to welcome Joe to ACE. [He] has a strong background and impressive record of accomplishment in the legal field. His extensive experience in both the private and public sectors includes work on large, complex commercial matters and serving as lead trial and appellate counsel on a number of landmark cases. Joe’s counsel and leadership will be critical to helping us achieve our growth strategies around the world.”
The ACE Group is one of the world’s largest providers of commercial and personal insurance and currently has operations in 53 countries globally.
