Christian healthcare centre appoints new GC in Cleveland

The Sisters of Charity Health System has welcomed Terrence Kessler as its general counsel based in Cleveland.

He has been a member of the company’s board of directors since 1998 but with his new appointment will be resigning from that position.

Kessler arrives from the law firm Black McCuskey Souers & Arbaugh PA where he focused on business and transactional matters and was a shareholder with the firm since 1980.

In his new role, he will oversee all legal functions of the corporation including corporate governance, federal tax and health care regulatory compliance.

“Throughout the past 14 years of volunteer services for the health system, Terry has deeply embraced our mission and values, and he shares our vision for the future,” said Sister Judith Ann Karam, president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System. “He has developed a deep understanding of the dynamic health care sector in Northeast Ohio and the values of Catholic health care. Combined with his extensive legal experience at one of Ohio’s top law firms, he is a perfect fit for the role of general counsel for the Sisters of Charity Health System.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Kessler said: “I am pleased to join the Sisters of Charity Health System and look forward to continuing the tremendous work that has been carried out diligently by my predecessor, Robert Maynard. I have tremendous passion and commitment to the Catholic healing mission of this organisation, which has a strong future of continuing to respond to the needs of all of the communities we serve.”

Established in 1982, The Sisters of Charity Health System operates a faith-based healthcare service and owns four Catholic hospitals in the Midwest and South-Western regions of the United States: St Vincent Charity Medical Center in Cleveland, Mercy Medical Center in Canton, and Providence Hospital and Providence Northeast in Columbia.
