Cartel expert joins Milbank’s London office
Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy LLP has hired Nicholas Spearing as a partner in its antitrust, competition and trade group in London after a 34 year career with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
Nicholas Spearing
Spearing, who has represented companies in transactional behavioural practices and has gained merger clearances for clients including E.ON, RBS, Xstrata, PepsiCo and Live Nation, is Milbank’s first dedicated competition partner in its London office.
He specialises in all aspects of competition law and will be working closely with Alexander Rinne, who heads Milbank’s Munich competition practice.
“I’ve been hugely lucky to have spent 34 years as part of a market-leading group at Freshfields, but am now looking forward enormously to building up an antitrust practice from scratch,” says Spearing. “Milbank is a great firm with a strong client base and I hope the practice will benefit both from the demands of the firm’s existing client base and new clients attracted by my reputation and that of the team.”
John Davies, co-head of Freshfields’ global antitrust practice in London, says: “We’re grateful to Nick for his longstanding and significant contribution to the firm, where he has many good friends. We wish him well as he embarks on this new challenge.”
Spearing is listed in The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists.
