Linklaters expands US tax practice with hire of former Dewey pair
Gordon Warnke and Joseph Pari have joined Linklaters LLP in the firm’s US tax practice as partners.
They joined from dissolved international firm Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP.
Warnke, the former chair of Dewey’s tax department, now heads the New York tax practice at Linklaters. He focuses on federal income taxation of domestic and international mergers and acquisitions and the taxation of foreign governmental entities and financial products.
Pari, who is based mainly in Washington, DC, focuses on federal income taxation of mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs. His practice also includes restructurings, bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy workouts and acquisition financing.
The pair have recently worked on MetLife’s purchase of American Life Insurance Company from AIG, and The Walt Disney Company’s US$4bn acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, among other major media, entertainment, insurance and finance cases.
Linklaters’ New York co-managing partner Jeff Norton said: “Gordon and Joseph are great additions to our US tax team. They are both recognised by their clients and peers as top US tax advisors. Their robust industry experience and dynamic leadership skills will enhance our US law practice as a whole. We look forward to their contributions to the firm.”
Henk Vanhulle, Linklaters’ global head of tax, said: “The appointment of Gordon and Joseph will broaden the firm’s already strong global tax practice and further cement our reputation of meeting clients’ needs on all aspects of cross-border advisory and transactional matters in the US and throughout the world.”
Both are listed in The International Who’s Who of Corporate Tax Lawyers.
